Song Analysis Red Hilll Mining Town

Please listen to the song and follow the lyrics here. you will be asked to answer some questions in regards to the song on a worksheet. In addition, please post a comment on my blog in regards to this song.
Red Hill Mining Town
U2

From Father to Son
The blood runs thin
Our faces frozen (still) against the wind
The seam is split
The coal face cracked
The lines are long
And there’s no going back
Through hands of steel
And a heart of stone
Our labour day has come and gone

And you leave us holding on
In Red Hill Town
As the lights go down
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to

The glass is cut
The bottle run dry
Our love runs cold
In the caverns of the night
We’re wounded by fear
Injured in doubt
I can lose myself
You I can’t live without
Because you keep me holding on
In Red Hill Town as the lights go down
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to

And we scorch the earth
Set fire to the sky
Stoop so low to reach so high
A link is lost
The chain undone
Now we wait all day
For the night to come
And it comes
And it comes
Like a hunter (child)
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
We see love slowly stripped away
Our love, has seen a better day
I’m hanging on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
I’m holding on
You’re all that’s left to hold on to
See the lights go down on Red Hill Town
See lights go down on Red Hill Town

welcome back

I hope that everyone had a nice spring break. Monday always seems to come too fast for me! So today you are going to be doing a couple of things on your blogs:

1) Make a new post that describes your spring break in 3 to 4 sentences. Then I want you to tell me what you are most looking forward to in regards to the rest of the school year (besides the end of it; we all look forward to summer!)
2) Make sure that you are caught up on your blog, check my other posts to ensure you have everything done. I'm going to be checking during class today.
3) Do a google image search to find some pictures of cartoons that you may like to draw and paint. We are going to be doing a grid art project on cartoons, so I want you to find a few that you like. Copy and paste them into a publisher document and save them there. You will need to get approval from me about which one you are going to do, I would rather we all do something different. If you don't want to draw a cartoon and you would prefer to draw an animal or something, let me know and we can figure it out. THESE WILL NOT BE YOUR CEILING TILES, just practice for them. Once you have approval, make a box(in an even amount of centimeters) around your picture and print two copies. Give one copy to me please.

Where do you live?

music

Welcome to another day of blogging. Today's assignment is about music and reflecting on the kinds of music you like. Please do the following:
1) make a new list on your blog about 5-6 different genres of music you like, including artists or bands
2) Make a new poll on your blog asking the class to identify their favorite bands, artists, or genres of music
3) make a new blog post that discusses the types of music and artists you like and why you like them-- how and why is music important to you?(if it is important-- if not--why not?)
4)Using the internet, copy and paste the lyrics of a song you particularly like. Summarize, in your own words, what you feel the message of the song is and why you like it. (*please avoid songs with a great deal of profanity)
5) Respond to the polls of others in the class and check out the kinds of music everyone likes.

*you will have today's class and one more next Tuesday to complete all of the tasks for this assignment.

New assignment

So you have all had a couple of "catch-up" classes and you should be ready to start some new stuff today. Please write about the 3 following topics today in paragraph form by posting it in 3 separate blog posts.

1) If you could be principal of this school for 1 week, what would you do? Why? (and you can't say no school all week and you can't say no rules!!)-- I want you to talk about what kind of changes you would make to make the school better! I want to hear about 4-6 changes please.

2) If you could have 3 super powers, what would they be and why? What would you do with them to make the world a better place?

3) I want you to find 3 pictures of 3 different places that you would like to travel to outside of Canada and post them to your blog. Feel free to find some information about the place and tell me why you would like to go there in a blog post.

If you finish all three today, feel free to visit other people's blogs and check out what their thoughts are and make some POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE comments.

Happy blogging.

Tuesdays

Good morning my fellow bloggers. This morning I would like for you to reflect on the following topic:
You have been asked to create a new holiday. What would we be celebrating? When would you choose to have the holiday (date)? What would be the special customs or events that would occur on that holiday? What would be the specific purpose or theme of this holiday? Why is this holiday important?
*please write a good paragraph (5-8 sentences) describing this holiday and post it to your blog before the end of the class.
*make sure you are caught up on the previous blog assignments. Last Thursday you were asked to describe the plot of a movie or book that you really enjoyed. You were also to create a new poll and participate in the polls of the others in class. Be sure that this is complete today. I would like you to leave a comment or question on this post (today). Happy blogging!

welcome back!

I hope everyone had a nice break last week. Today, I would like for you to ensure you are caught up on previous blog assignments: check the posts and complete that first. Secondly, I would like for you to make 1 comment on this posting, telling me about your break, how art class is going for you so far or some other information you wish to share. Also, visit everyone's blog and leave a short, positive comment on their latest post. Third, I want you to find 2 landscape pictures that you would like to paint later on and post them to your blog. If you finish that, you may change your blog profile, add some other gadgets or other creative activities.

Blogging: Part Trois!

Here we are again. So this is our third class of blogging. Today you are going to do a few things. First, make sure you are caught up with the activities for day 1 and 2. Look at the instructions on the other posts. Second, you will add a survey and list to your blog. You will go into add a gadget to do both of these. The survey can be about a variety of topics. Have a look at the one on this page. The list will be a list of your favorite TV shows or activities or songs or something like that. You should include 5-6 items in your list and survey.
Third you will answer the following question by posting it on your blog:
You are given $100,000, but you cannot spend it on yourself or your immediate family. What would you do with it and why? (1 paragraph)
Read the answers the other people in class and be sure to complete the surveys that people post on their blogs.

Blogging: part deux!

Well, it looks like most of you survived the first class of blogging mostly in one piece. Today we're going to try to get more familiar with the software and add some features to your blog. Please do the following:
1. add list of class blogs in the link list gadget (refer to handout with instructions and addresses)
2. add a picture of a work of art or art style that you like (modern or classic, even graffiti) as long as it is school appropriate.
3. answer the following question by making a post on your blog: What are the three most important qualities that makes someone a good friend? Why?

Have a great day and weekend!

welcome to the world of blogging!

Hello everybody!
Your first task is of course to set up your blog. You should edit your profile, adjust the colour or layout of your blog, and write down your blog address and password on the sheet of paper that is coming around and then do your first post. I will take you through step by step in how to set it up. Once the sheet with the addresses has been passed around, we will create a link list (in the add a gadget tool) that includes all of blog addresses of the class. This is important because you will need to leave comments on the posts of other students later on.
Please leave a comment on my blog (this post) to let me know that you have set everything up.

Your first post will be to answer the following question:
If you could design the perfect room in your house, what would you do? Include descriptions of colours, layout, technology, and interesting features that would make it perfect for you and what you like to do. Money is not an object, the only limit is your imagination.
